ALLIANCE – A new car wash expects to open in the city by the end of the year.

ModWash plans to build a 4,600-sqaure-foot, single-conveyor car wash on the vacant parcel between Aaron’s and Sherwin-Williams on West State Street.

The “modern” car wash would be able to clean up to five cars at a time and complete a wash every two minutes, said Michael Vale of Morris Knowles and Associates, the project’s civil engineer.

The facility would also have vacuum stations that customers could use for free with the purchase of a car wash.

The Planning Commission on Wednesday gave conditional approval for the project.

Sara Williams of ModWash said in an email that the company plans to open its Alliance location in December.

ModWash is an eco-friendly car wash company that operates 37 car washes throughout the U.S. The company has been expanding recently and has 186 locations in development, according to its website.

A number of ModWash locations are planned for Northeast Ohio, including in Canton, Akron, Tallmadge and Salem. The company has a car wash already open in Kent.

The company has a focus on sustainability, according to its website. Each car wash uses less than 30 gallons of water and the chemicals incorporated in the process are biodegradable.

ModWash reuses the majority of its water and has a system to collect water that is not reused and dirt that has accumulated, which is then redirected to a facility where it is refined to be used for fertilizer and potting soil.

Customers can purchase a membership or single wash.

Alliance is home to several car washes, including Super Wash, B.J.’s Car Wash and Roy’s Car Wash and Lube.
